Meet Your teacher
Dear Student,
Welcome to my class of explorers. I look forward to getting to know as we progress through sixth grade together! We will spend this year defining who we are as learners through many activities, lessons, and conversations. It is my honor to guide you in the process of discovering who you are as a scholar and helping you figure out how you learn best in our class.
You are a genius and the world needs your contribution!
I am here to help you be the best you can be. Everyone is talented, valued, and appreciated in this class for their unique contributions, and everyone has the potential to be someone who can change the world!
I would like to share with you a little bit about who I am so you can know what to expect this year in our class. I grew up with my parents and two older sisters in south Orange County, near Mission Viejo. In Fall of 2013, I moved to Santa Barbara to attend UCSB (University of California, Santa Barbara) in pursuit of a B.A. in Psychology and double minor in Education and Applied Psychology. I am a true California girl, so attending a college near the beach was a major plus. After completing my Bachelor's degree in Winter of 2017, I moved back to Orange County to attend UCI (University of California, Irvine). I graduated this past summer with a multiple subject teaching credential and a Master of Arts in Teaching. While attending UCI, I gained experience in the classroom through my student teaching in both a third grade and fifth grade classroom.
Last year I had the privilege of teaching an amazing group of sixth graders at Eastwood Elementary. Together we explored the world around us and grew together as scholars. It was so exciting to be able to implement all of the high quality pedagogical practices I learned in my teacher preparation program while making connections with a great group of students. In the classroom, I greatly enjoy integrating technology, current trends and events, and your ideas for how we can make things more awesome in our classroom!
One of the things I like most about teaching is interacting with so many inspiring students, and helping these students flourish into independent, passionate, hardworking individuals. Throughout the year, our class will focus on developing the behaviors, habits and attitudes of successful 21st century learners. These include: Imagination, Curiosity, Perseverance, Self Awareness, Courage, Adaptability, and Passion. My job is to support you and serve as a guide as you learn and grow. Together, we will be creative explorers, problem solvers, and critical thinkers. We will be inspired and inspire others as we collaborate and communicate together with other classes around the world. We will be getting our genius on!
I look forward to getting to know each of you and to a wonderful year!
Sincerely,
Ms. Nixt
